03 The premise
The engine cannot smell
It knows where every material goes and why the structure holds. It has never smelled anything. You still have to sit with the strip and decide.
What it does well is the placing. Every material comes from a curated catalog with real physical data behind it, and the engine works out the structure from that, the way a fixative stretches a drydown or a heavy base pulls a bright top down into the heart.
It cannot tell you how the result smells on skin. Longevity, projection and sillage are estimated from the materials, never measured from a finished blend. A real maceration drifts from the model. When it does, record what you smelled and the page defers to you.
Treat it as scaffolding for your own judgment. It gets you to a lab-ready draft faster than you could alone, then hands it back for the part no software does.

- Built first for the working or indie perfumer composing for clients or a brand. The workflow follows a bench session and the vocabulary is the trade's. Serious hobbyists grow into it. The engine is the same on every plan.
- What does the AI actually do?
- It reads a plain-language brief into an editable starting formula, and on saved formulas it writes a scent story and suggests names. The composition stays deterministic and every material comes from the catalog. Every number is the engine's.
- Is there a free plan?
- Yes, and it is a real one. 10 briefs a month, read-backs on any formula you paste, the inventory library, and unlimited saved formulas, on the full catalog. The 7-day trial opens everything else, so you can run a genuine composition before deciding.
- Do you store my formulas?
- Formulas are private to your account. Export CSV any time. If you cancel, the formulas stay and the account drops to Free.
- Where does the material data come from?
- A curated catalog of 311 naturals and aroma chemicals. Each carries a descriptor profile, its volatility and a typical use level, which is what lets the engine place it. Both plans read a catalog price, and Studio pulls live supplier prices wherever we have listings.
- Can I substitute something I can't source?
- Yes. Pick the material you can't get and the cost optimizer finds the nearest match by descriptor profile, then rebalances around it so the accord holds. That is most of the work in reformulating by hand.
- What is the Formulary?
- A shared library of formula and accord editions. Makers publish, and anyone with Studio can browse and take one into their workspace to build on. Publishing your own comes with Studio too.
